The former military depot in Bërdice, an area covered for decades by tons of scrap metal and hundreds of impounded vehicles, is finally being returned to all of Shkodra. Following the decision of the Council of Ministers to transfer them to the administration of the Shkodra Municipality, the penalty for cleaning up the areas has been imposed, paving the way for a major urban transformation.

The Chief Administrator of the Seized and Confiscated Assets Administration Agency (AAPSK), Risena Xhaja, and the Mayor of Shkodra Municipality, Benet Beci, closely inspected the terrain, which until a few weeks ago served as an improvised magazine for vehicles impounded by politics, while it was recently subsumed under the AP.

“There are about 327 vehicles and motorbikes that have been removed from this area and have been collected in Porto Romano. The rest of the scrap metal was left for more than 12 years. Today this space is free and ready for investment,” said Ms. Xhaja.

In total, it is about three hectares of land that will be turned into the largest public areas of the city, a development project between the Municipality of Shkodra and its Albanian Fund. The project foresees a modern playground for children, recreational facilities for love, as well as greenery that will make the data of an area blocked for decades.

For Mayor Beci, this is a major transformation not only visually, but also for the urban functionality of Shkodra:

Today we have liberated and are making a park for the children of Shkodra.

This investment is expected to start soon, paving the way for the largest playground in Shkodra, a space that will not only live the lives of residents, but will also become a symbol of the city’s transformation towards modern urban standards.
