The educational activity “Young Generations for Waste Management” was held today in the Tirana Waste Treatment Zone, a joint initiative of the Ministry of Environment, the Agency for the Administration of Sequestered and Confiscated Assets (AAPSK), and the academic staff of Polis University, in cooperation with the 9-year school “Sharrë”.

The activity aimed to raise awareness among children and young people on the importance of waste separation at source, recycling, pollution reduction and strengthening environmental responsibility in the community.

The Minister of Environment, Mr. Sofjan Jaupaj, emphasized the importance of strengthening integrated waste management as part of environmental reforms and sustainable development. He focused on new initiatives at the central and local levels, as well as on instruments aimed at promoting innovation and green technologies in waste management services.

The Chief Administrator of AAPSK, Ms. Risena Xhaja, presented the processes of managing seized and confiscated assets, emphasizing the importance of their good management in the public interest and strengthening trust in the rule of law.

In her speech, Ms. Xhaja clearly underlined the role of AAPSK in transforming these assets into tangible value for society.

“Seized and confiscated assets are a valuable opportunity to return to the community what was taken from it through illegal activity. Our goal is to manage them with transparency and responsibility, so that each asset is returned to benefit, value and public service. This is a commitment that serves the community and strengthens the rule of law,” said Ms. Xhaja.

The young people were introduced to the processes developed in the Waste Treatment Area, the current infrastructure, the practices of separating recyclable waste and the measures to reduce environmental impact.

The academic staff of Polis University and teachers of the “Sharrë” school appreciated the importance of inter-institutional cooperation, considering environmental education an essential long-term investment.

During the activity, open discussions were held with pupils and students, who expressed interest in concrete recycling practices and the circular economy.

The students of the “Sharrë” school were distributed reusable bags made from recyclable materials, as well as bins for separating waste at source, which will be installed in the school premises as an educational model.

The activity concluded with a field visit of the participants to the Waste Treatment Area, where experts from the Department of Environment presented the technical processes, the types of waste that are treated and the impacts of new projects for a more sustainable management.
