Albania and Ukraine strengthen cooperation on management of seized and confiscated assets

The Agency for the Administration of Seized and Confiscated Assets of the Republic of Albania (AAPSK) and the National Agency of Ukraine for Finding, Tracing and Management of Assets Arising from Corruption and Other Crimes (ARMA) signed a cooperation agreement aimed at strengthening institutional ties and exchanging experiences in the field of management of seized and confiscated assets.

The agreement was signed in Warsaw, where both countries participated in the IV EU-Eastern Partnership Legal Forum, by Ms. Risena Xhaja, Chief Administrator of AAPSK, and Ms. Olena Duma, Director of ARMA, marking an important step towards building a common platform for increasing the effectiveness in the fight against corruption and other crimes with an economic impact.

The document envisages cooperation in areas such as:

exchange of best practices for the management and reuse of seized and confiscated assets;
organization of joint seminars, webinars and forums;
establishment of joint working groups and research projects;
development of relations with international organizations.

In her statement, Ms. Xhaja emphasized: “This agreement marks not only technical cooperation, but also a joint commitment to strengthening the rule of law and the use of seized and confiscated assets for the benefit of the public.”

For her part, Ms. Duma praised the strengthening of international cooperation in increasing institutional capacities and efficiency: “Partnerships such as this are essential to ensure a coordinated and effective approach to illicit assets at the international level.”

The agreement enters into force immediately and will serve as a basis for information exchange and the development of a number of joint activities for the period ahead.
